Primary Care Commissioning
Since 1 April 2016, Sutton CCG has been delegated responsibility for commissioning primary medical services by NHS England. This means that the CCG makes decisions on the review, planning and procurement of primary care services in Sutton, under delegated authority from NHS England. This work is undertaken by the CCG's Primary Care Commissioning Committee.
While formal liability for GP services remains with NHS England for legal reasons, the CCG is accountable for meeting their statutory duties regarding delivery, quality, financial resources and public participation.
Primary Care services include general practice (GP) services. Primary Care forms the largest part of most people's experience of health care, as it is the first point of contact in the health care system and often acts as the 'front door' of the NHS.
Other health services such as community pharmacy, dental, and optometry (eye health) are not within the remit of CCGs at this time.
