Sutton residents told: "At the first signs of a winter illness, don't wait until it gets worse. See your pharmacist!"

Doctors in Sutton are urging patients to visit their pharmacist at the first signs of an illness this winter, after it was revealed that many are unaware of the expert healthcare advice they offer.

Visitors at a local hospital were asked whether they had considered visiting their pharmacist to discuss minor concerns – such as troublesome colds and flu, sore throats and earache, as well as stop smoking services and management of common long-term conditions.  However, many visitors believed they could only collect a prescription or purchase over the counter medications.

Dr Dino Pardhanani, local GP and joint clinical director for Sutton CCG said: "Just like your GP, your local pharmacist is a healthcare expert who can advise on a broad range of health concerns.

"The convenience of visiting a pharmacist is often overlooked by patients who are suffering with a winter illness. We'd like to remind people living in Sutton that they can get the advice they need from a pharmacist at a time to suit them - without booking an appointment.

"So if you're feeling under the weather this Christmas, don't wait until it gets worse. See your pharmacist".

This winter, there are also GP appointments available to Sutton patients in the following locations, from 8am – 8pm, 7 days a week:

To make an appointment, people living in Sutton can call their GP practice in the usual way and can ask for a time that is convenient, even at the weekends. If the GP practice is closed, then they can call 07578 813838 / 07479 819677.
